What are wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth, also known as the third molars, are the last set of teeth to grow in. Many times, wisdom teeth do not have enough space in the mouth to grow in properly.

What are premolars?

Premolars, also known as bicuspids, are permanent teeth between the molars and the canine teeth. Kids typically get their premolars between the ages of 10-12.

Why does my child need to have them removed?

If there is adequate space in the mouth and the teeth can grow in correctly, they may not need to be removed. However, impacted teeth may increase your risk of infection, decay to neighboring teeth, bone damage, or crowded and misaligned teeth. These teeth may also need to be removed in order to start or complete orthodontic treatment.

Where is the oral surgery performed?

Oral surgery procedures for wisdom tooth removal is performed in our recently renovated Lehigh Valley office, located at 1020 W Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018.

Is anesthesia provided for oral surgery?

Yes, the oral surgeon will administer anesthesia to make patients comfortable during the procedure.

What is the recovery time for wisdom tooth removal and oral surgery?

Each surgery, and each patient, is unique. Generally, most people can resume normal activities such as school or work within three to five days, but overall recovery is typically within one to two weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided during recovery. Your surgeon and clinical team will provide specific post-care instructions.

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an oral surgery appointment, you’ll first need to receive a referral from your dentist or orthodontist. They will review the x-rays and provide you with a referral to our oral surgery clinic. Our scheduling coordinator will contact you to schedule your consultation and surgery appointment, which are typically on the same day.
