It is recommended by The American Association of Orthodontists to bring your child to their first orthodontic visit around age seven. The importance of this time frame is centered on preventive treatments that can help your child’s jaw and teeth grow and develop in harmony, potentially removing the need for braces in the future! You shouldn’t expect an orthodontist to recommend braces at age seven, as their mouths are still growing and developing. Visits to the orthodontist at this stage are more for monitoring the growth and aiding the development. If your child is around this age, or even older, feel free to contact us for more information!
If braces are recommended, putting off braces can have adverse effects later on down the line. By putting off braces, the teeth will have more time to move, opening the potential need for extractions or surgery to prepare for braces. We offer the Spark Smile Assessment at no charge and no-obligation, so it never hurts to get expert advice on your child’s recommended course of treatment.
We offer a variety of braces that cater to various lifestyles. Most braces will require dietary adjustments as certain foods can damage brackets and bend wires, prolonging treatment. There are also braces-ready mouth guards your child can wear during sports activities to protect both their appliance and their mouth. Additionally, you don’t have to worry if your child plays a wind or brass instrument, because they tend to adapt easily to their appliance. We do offer a variety of treatment options, including removable plastic trays that give your child the comfort and flexibility of enjoying the foods and activities the same way they always have!
Luckily, braces are considered a rite of passage into their teen years by many students. However, if self-confidence is an issue, we offer many treatment options that are virtually invisible!
