FAQs About Orthodontics

What are the benefits of getting braces or orthodontic treatment?

Braces can not only improve the appearance of your smile, but can also boost your self-confidence and overall health! Orthodontic treatment can improve your speech, oral hygiene, and make eating more comfortable.

What types of orthodontic treatment are there?

We offer a variety of orthodontic treatment plans including traditional braces, clear or ceramic braces, Invisalign clear aligners and Invisalign Teen, as well as Wild Smiles. We have something for everyone! Your orthodontist can share what the best orthodontic treatment is for you during your Spark Smile Assessment!

What is orthodontic treatment and how does it work?

An orthodontist can straighten your teeth with braces or clear aligners. The orthodontic appliances gradually shift your teeth into proper alignment. Throughout orthodontic treatment, your orthodontist will make adjustments to your braces or provide you with new sets of clear aligners as your teeth continue to move. You may also wear rubber bands while you’re in braces to help correct misalignment.

Is it required that my family dentist schedule my appointment with the orthodontist?

No, it is not. Many of our patients are referred by their family dentist, yet many other patients take the initiative to schedule an examination themselves.

Will I need to have teeth extracted for braces?

Removing teeth is sometimes required to achieve the best orthodontic result. Straight teeth and a balanced facial profile are the goal of orthodontics. However, because new technology has provided advanced orthodontic procedures, removing teeth is not always necessary for orthodontic treatment.

Are there foods I can’t eat while in braces?

Yes. Once treatment begins, we will explain the complete instructions and provide a comprehensive list of foods to avoid. Some of those foods include: ice, hard candy, raw vegetables and all sticky foods (i.e. caramel and taffy). You can avoid most emergency appointments to repair broken or damaged braces by carefully following our instructions.

Why should I choose an orthodontic specialist?

Teeth, and sometimes entire facial structures, are permanently changed by orthodontic treatment. It is important that the treatment be appropriate and properly completed. Orthodontic specialists have extensive and specialized training that enables them to provide their patients with professional, personalized treatments.

Can I put off getting braces?

If braces are recommended, putting off braces can have adverse effects later on down the line. By putting off braces, the teeth will have more time to move, opening the potential need for extractions or surgery to prepare for braces. We offer the Spark Smile Assessment at no charge and no-obligation, so it never hurts to get expert advice on your child’s recommended course of treatment.

Kirsten: “Hi, I’m Kirsten Kissinger. My daughter is getting braces on. We had noticed that her teeth were starting to shift and move. I called here and they got us right in and very quickly her teeth were starting to shift. Back when Laura first found out she had to get braces put on she was nervous. She didn’t know how she was going to look or if it was going to hurt. At any time you had a problem or if Laura was uncomfortable, they were very patient and went at her pace. I would absolutely recommend Spark they just take really good care of you here.”
